#209: How to Conjugate Reflexive Verbs in the Future Tense

In Italian, reflexive verbs express actions that a person performs on themselves. To conjugate reflexive verbs in the future tense, drop the “-si” of the infinitive, add the future tense ending, and place the reflexive pronoun before the verb.

Two Main Takeaways

  • To use reflexive verbs in the future, first remove the “-si” ending (“vestirsi” becomes “vestire”). This gives you the base verb; without this step, you can’t add the correct future endings.
  • Always place the reflexive pronoun before the conjugated verb. For example: “mi laverò” (in English, “I will wash myself”). The pronoun shows the action is done to oneself.
